  • Both teams have emerged as genuine title contenders, with City keen to defend the crown
  • Only two points are separating the two teams at the top of the charts, with Arsenal having a game in hand

Arsenal and Manchester City have emerged as the outright Premier League title contenders this season.

The two English giants have been swapping the top spot for the better part of the campaign, with the Gunners momentarily dropping to second last Wednesday when they lost to Pep Guardiola's men.

However, the north Londoners went back to the summit on Saturday after their 4-2 hard-fought win over Aston Villa.

Arsenal looked set to settle for a 2-2 draw before they staged a stunning comeback to score two late goals in the dying minutes of the encounter.

City, meanwhile, had a chance to once again topple Arsenal from the top but squandered the opportunity after they dropped points against Nottingham Forest.

The reigning English champions looked on course to secure a 1-0 slim win over Nottingham, only for Chris Wood to grab a point for Steve Cooper's men with six minutes left on the clock.

With the second-half of the 2022/23 season taking shape, next few fixtures are expected to have a huge bearing on how the title race could pan out.

Sports Brief now takes a look at how Arsenal's next five fixtures compare with Man City's:

Arsenal's next five EPL fixtures

The league leaders are scheduled to play Leicester City at the King Power Stadium next Saturday, February 25, before welcoming Everton at home four days later on Wednesday, March 1.

Arteta's men will then prepare for a tricky clash against relegation battlers Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal's next two fixtures after the three will be London derbies, with a trip to Craven Cottage to face Fulham on March 12.

The Gunners will afterwards welcome Patrick Vieira's Crystal Palace at Emirates.

Of the five teams they will play, it is only Everton who they have dropped points against this season.

Man City's next five fixtures

Unlike Arsenal, Man City have other cup fixtures to contend with away from their Premier League matches.

The cup ties include a two-legged Champions League fixture against RB Leipzig and an FA Cup clash against Bristol City.

City's next EPL assignment after their Nottingham heartbreak will be against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium before hosting Champions League-chasing Newcastle United at Etihad on Saturday, March 4.

Pep Guardiola's men will then prepare for a tricky trip to Crsytal Palace before hosting relegation-threatened West Ham United on March 11.
