Chelsea Head Coach Graham Potter has revealed that Cesar Azpilicueta is in a conscious state after suffering a worrying head injury during their clash against Southampton.
Azpilicueta went down after an overhead kick from Sekou Mara caught him in the head, resulting to a prolonged delay in proceedings at Stamford Bridge.
The Chelsea captain had to be taken care of by medical professionals from both clubs before being strechtered off.
Speaking after the game, Potter revealed that the Spanish full back was well and speaking to his wife at the hospital.

"He's in hospital. He is conscious and speaking to his wife. Hopefully he is in the best place and we're monitoring. He needs to take all the precautions we need to take now"
Azpilicueta started the game for the rested Reece James as Chelsea struggled to break down the Saints. An error from the fullback resulted to a meticulous James Ward Prowse freekick at the end of the first half. The goal was enough to see Southampton complete a double over the Blues despite their own struggles this season.
The defeat ramped up pressure on Potter, who has now won just two games in his last 15.
Chelsea's stance on Potter
At the same time, Sports Brief has reported that the Chelsea board reportedly has no intention of sacking Graham Potter as manager despite the club's underwhelming run of results across competitions.
Potter has come under immense scrutiny since he succeeded Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge back in September. The former Brighton boss has been unable to steady the ship at the club, with the Blues managing just one win 10 outings.
The west Londoners lost to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League earlier in the week and were hoping to bounce back to winning ways when they played bottom-placed Southampton on Saturday.
