Yann Sommer had an emotional return to Borussia Monchengladbach weeks after leaving the club to join Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
The Switzerland goalkeeper joined the Bavarians in the winter transfer window after spending eight and a half years as Borussia Monchengladbach’s first-choice goalie.
Prior to the Bundesliga match-up between Gladbach and Bayern at Borussia Park on Saturday, February 18, Sommer was honoured by the club he joined in 2014.

The 34-year-old was presented a plaque containing some of his beautiful moments by Glabach president Rolf Konigs and was then applauded by the club’s fans.
Sommer could however not prevent Bayern Munich from going down to his former side as Gladbach strolled to a comfortable 3-1 victory against the Bundesliga champions to derail their title defence.
Bayern beaten again by Monchengladbach
Meanwhile, Borussia Mönchengladbach beat 10-man Bayern Munich 3-2 on Saturday, stretching their unbeaten run over the Bundesliga champions to five games, The Guardian reports.
Bayern defender Dayot Upamecano saw an eight-minute red card after bringing down Alassane Pléa outside the box with Lars Stindl five minutes later to give Gladbach the lead.
Eric Choupo-Moting got the Bavarians level in the 35th minute but further goals from Jonas Hofmann and Marcus Thuram ensured the Bundesliga champions left Borussia Park without a point.

FootballEarlier, Sports Brief reported Bayern Munich have signed Yann Sommer from Borussia Moenchengladbach as a replacement for injured goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, the Bavarian club confirmed on Thursday.
The Swiss goalkeeper's contract at Bayern will run until the summer of 2025, one year longer than Neuer's current deal, which expires in 2024.
Gladbach would receive a transfer fee of eight million euros, plus 1.5 million in add ons contingent on Bayern winning the Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions League.
