  • Chelsea succumbed to yet another lowly defeat, this time at the hands of Southampton
  • The Saints claimed a crucial 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge courtesy of a James Ward-Prowse free kick
  • It was the Blues’ ninth defeat in 15 games, a run that only piled more pressure on boss Graham Potter

Graham Potter was a worldwide topic of conversation in the wake of Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Southampton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, February 18.

In a game which Chelsea, heavy spenders in tne last two transfer windows, were expected to win, it was anything but straightforward for the Londoners.

The only goal of the game at Stamford Bridge on Saturday came from James Ward-Prowse, who curled in a stunning first-half free kick after Stuart Armstrong was felled on the edge of the Chelsea box.

In truth, it was nothing short of what Southampton deserved as they made a positive start with some bravery going forward.

In the second half, Graham Potter introduced Raheem Sterling in a move that breathed life into Chelsea, but they still lacked a cutting edge up front.

There was a lengthy stoppage late in the game as Ceasar Azpilicueta had to receive emergency treatment on the pitch after a boot to the head from Southampton’s Sekou Mara, as reported on BBC.

Azpiicueta’s injury meant the referee added on 12 minutes of stoppage time, but it was not enough for Chelsea to find an equalizer.

Full-time was met by jeers around Stamford Bridge, and on social media, fans made their feelings clear about Potter, who only has a 29% win percentage as Chelsea boss.

Potter Out

Moments after full time, Chelsea fans took to Twitter with varying reactions on the state of their club:

“Sack graham potter in the tunnel. The worst manager in chelsea history.” One fan said.
“He should be out a week ago. Sack potter,” another added.
“Anyone with half a technical eye knew from how Brighton played he wasnt going to succeed at any top club Sack this guy,” Said another fan.

Defeat leaves Chelsea 10th on the log with 31 points and they are now 10 points off the top four places.
