Former Nigerian international Kanu Nwankwo has expressed delight after the Gunners came from behind to defeat Aston Villa in a pulsating encounter.

It was a fight to finish at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon as Arsenal fought their way back to the top of the Premier League table with two goals in stoppage time.

Arsenal started the encounter on a poor note, going behind as early as the 5th minute when Ollie Watkins opened the scoring for the hosts.

Eleven minutes later, the visitors restored parity courtesy of a Bukayo Saka strike but it didn’t take long before Philippe Coutinho restored Villa’s lead.

Both teams went into the break with the Gunners losing 2-1, but Oleksandr Zinchenko made it 2-2 before Jorginho’s volley on the edge of the box came off Emiliano Martinez put Arsenal 3-2 up in the 93rd minute.

And Gabriel Martinelli sealed the win as he raced on to Fabio Vieira’s pass and slotted it into an empty net after Martinez joined his Villa teammates for a corner. It ended; Aston Villa 2-4 Arsenal.

After the game, Kanu reacted when he posted on Twitter:

“Come on you gunners @Arsenal #coyg #gunners.”

Arteta mocks Hooper

Meanwhile, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was involved in a viral, meme-worthy moment during the clash against Aston Villa.

In the 89th minute, Arteta, who was clearly not content with a draw, was keen on seeing his side attack, but referee Simon Hooper brought playback from a counter since the ball was still rolling from a dead-ball situation.

Following the referee’s decision, Arteta was seen mocking Hooper with the same gesture the match official did, and it left fans on social media in hysterics.

Guardiola concedes to Arsenal’s advantage

Sports Brief earlier reported that Manchester City have won four of the last five Premier League titles, with Liverpool the only other team to win one over the previous five seasons.

The Citizens appeared to be losing ground on the league title after falling eight points behind Arsenal two weeks ago, but a winless three games have seen the Gunners drop below City on the league table.

The two teams may be levelled on points accumulated so far, Arteta's men have a game in hand, and Pep concedes it is an advantage.
