Moments later, the Citizens' keeper brought down Eddie Nketiah in the box, with the Gunners ace already through in goal.

Rather than send Ederson off for a second booking, referee Anthony Taylor overlooked the incident and awarded Arsenal a penalty instead.

Taylor's decision not to red card the Brazilian sparked protestation from a section of Arsenal fans, who took to social media to register their displeasure.

However, it has now emerged that Taylor actually made the right call.

According to The Mirror, going by the nature of it, it was Nketiah who had jumped into Ederson leading to the collision, meaning Taylor had not seen any malice in the goalkeeper's action.

Man City humble Arsenal

Meanwhile, Man City emerged the victors of the Emirates showdown, with Pep Guardiola's men putting three goals past a helpless Arsenal.

Sky Sports reports that Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring for the Citizens in the 24th minute before Bukayo Saka equalised from the spot before the break.

Two second-half goals from Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland sealed a vital win for the Citizens as Arsenal dropped to second in the standings.

The Gunners will be hoping to get their campaign back on track when they take on Aston Villa on February 18 at Villa Park.

Bukayo Saka embarrasses Ederson

Sports Brief has also reported on Arsenal star, Saka showing great composure to score from the penalty spot during their game against Man City on February 15.

The Citizens' goalkeeper, Ederson was at fault for bringing Nketiah down in the penalty area but somehow survived calls for him to be sent off with a red card.

There was another long wait before the Englishman could take his penalty. The Brazilian keeper tried to get into Saka's head by pointing to one side of the goal.
