  • Bayern Munich inflicted more misery on Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League
  • Kingsley Coman's strike was the difference between the German giants and their French counterparts
  • Despite making a cameo appearance, it was Mbappe who dominated the headlines after the match

Paris Saint-Germain suffered their third successive defeat across all competitions following an agonizing 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The French champions, who have endured a difficult start to the calendar year, took their losing record in 2023 to five losses across all competitions.

The result could have read differently if Kylian Mbappe's equalizer had not been ruled out for offside.

Mbappe, who made a surprise recovery from his thigh injury, started the round-of-16 clash from the bench.

With PSG down by a Kinglsey Coman strike, Christophe Galtier threw caution to the wind and introduced the half-fit Champions League's joint-top scorer in a bid to salvage at least a draw.

His tactical shuffle nearly proved a masterstroke when Mbappe grabbed the equalizer in the 82nd minute.

However, the joy at Parc des Princes was short-lived when the goal was ruled out for offside.

Why was Mbappe's goal disallowed?

The decision ruffled a few feathers, but the latest image proves referee Michael Oliver had his call correct.

The image shows Nuno Mendes was marginally offside before he received the through ball from Neymar and eventually teed off Mbappe who finished with aplomb.

Bayern piles more misery on PSG

Kingsley Coman scored the only goal of the game as Bayern Munich beat Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Tuesday, with Kylian Mbappe denied a late equaliser by VAR.

Mbappe was the victim of a marginal offside call after he came on as a substitute on his return from injury.

The unmarked Coman swept in an Alphonso Davies cross eight minutes into the second half at the Parc des Princes, just as Mbappe was preparing to enter the fray after PSG had appeared devoid of ideas without their top scorer.

PSG starlet makes history

Despite the defeat to Bayern, Paris Saint-Germain youngster Warren Zaire Emery made history as he became the youngest starter in a Champions League knockout game ever, Sports Brief earlier reported.

Emery started for the French side as they took on Bayern Munich in the Round of 16 clash in France.

Born in 2006, Warren becomes the youngest starter in the history of Champions League knockout games.
