  • The UEFA Champions League has returned and 10 African nations will be represented in the knockout phase
  • Bayern Munich and Club Brugge have four African representatives each in their respective squads for UCL

With the UEFA Champions League returning on February 14, 2023, about 25 African players will be representing various clubs in the Round of 16.

It has been reported that 10 African countries will be represented as the knockout stages of the competition begin.

German side, Bayern Munich and Belgian outfit, Club Brugge have four representatives each from the continent.

Spanish giants Real Madrid, Portuguese outfit Benfica, and Dutch club Eintracht Frankfurt have no African players in their teams.

SuperSport reports that Senegal are the best represented with seven players. Other African countries represented are: Cameroon (4), Nigeria (3), Algeria (2), Cote d’ Ivoire (2), Ghana (2), Morocco (2), Mali (1), Egypt (1) and Guinea (1).

FC Bayern Munich vs PSG

  • Bouna Sarr (Senegal) - He is yet to feature for the club in this season’s Champions League.
  • Noussair Mazraoui (Morocco) - He has already played five games.
  • Eric Maxim Choupo Moting (Cameroon) - He has four Champions League appearances this season already.
  • Sadio Mane (Senegal) - He has three goals from six games.

Paris Saint Germain (1)

  • Achraf Hakimi (Morocco) - He is a key member of the squad and has already featured in six Champions League games this season.

AC Milan vs Tottenham

AC Milan (2)

  • Fode Ballo (Senegal) - He has already played four matches for the Italian giants in the Champions League this season.
  • Ismael Bennacer (Algeria) - He has played six games for AC Milan in the tournament this season.

Tottenham (1)

  • Pape Sarr (Senegal) - He has no Champions League appearances yet this season.

Club Brugge vs Benfica

  • Denis Odoi (Ghana) - Five games.
  • Abakar Sylla (Cote D’ Ivoire) - Five games.
  • Raphael Onyedika (Nigeria) - Five games.
  • Kamal Sowatt (Ghana) - Five games.

  • Andre Onana (Cameroon) - He has been in goal in all six group matches.

FC Porto (1)

  • Zaidu Sanusi (Nigeria) - The Super Eagles star has had an outstanding tournament in the UCL thus far, playing in all six group games.

Leroy Sane on facing PSG

Sports Brief also reported on Leroy Sane opening up about coming face-to-face with Paris Saint-Germain's much-vaunted attacking trident.

Formerly of Manchester City, he will be one of the key men Bayern Munich will bank their hopes on when PSG hosts them in the UCL's last 16.

The German international will not be the only dangerous man on the field, with PSG to feature Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.
