Victor Osimhen: Babangida Says Napoli Striker Can Break Yekini’s Nigeria’s Record

Former Nigeria international Tijani Babangida has stated clearly that he has the feeling that Victor Osimhen can break Rashidi Yekini's record in the Super Eagles if he stays consistent.

Osimhen is the man of the moment now in the Serie A as the Nigerian keeps pumping in the goals for Napoli who are topping the standings and have been tipped to win the title.

During his active playing days in the Super Eagles, Yekini was one of the Africa's finest strikers considering how he helped the national team to win the 1994 Nations Cup.

In total, Yekini made 62 appearances for the Super Eagles netting 37 goals.

Since his demise, his goal-record in the Super Eagles has not been equalled or broken despite Nigeria parading some of the biggest strikers.

Since 2017 that Osimhen has been playing for the Super Eagles, the Napoli man has scored 15 goals in 22 games.

Sports Brief spoke with Babangida who explained that Osimhen only needs to translate his club form into the Super Eagles.

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how former Brazilian footballer, Careca compared Victor Osimhen to the late soccer icon, Pele, after watching the Nigerian's Serie A goal against AS Roma.

The goal against Jose Mourinho's side earned the Naples star the Serie A Player of the Month award for January 2023 and has also been tipped for goal of the season title.

A long pass was sent to Osimhen which the Nigerian controlled with his chest, before volleying into the back of the net to help his team to victory.
