Players of Freiburg walked onto the pitch before their Bundesliga game against VfB Stuttgart wearing shirts bearing the name and jersey number of Daniel-Kofi Kyereh.
The Ghana international has been ruled out for the rest of the season after tearing his cruciate ligament during training last Thursday.
In show of support for the midfielder, the team warmed up in t-shirts with the name of Kyereh.
Kyereh joined Freiburg in the summer transfer window from Bundesliga 2 side Saint Pauli and has been an integral member of the team this season.

His outstanding performances earned him a place in Ghana's World Cup squad in Qatar last year, playing all three games in the group.
The latest set back means Kyereh is out of next month's Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola.
Freiburg release statement on Kyereh's injury
The club wrote:
Kofi Kyereh tore his cruciate ligament in training and will be out for the rest of the season.
In Thursday's training, Kofi Kyereh twisted his knee in a duel. An examination in the Freiburg University Hospital resulted in the diagnosis of a cruciate ligament rupture. An operation is to follow in the next few days. The attacking player will no longer be available this season.
