  • PSG suffered their fourth defeat of 2023 following their defeat to Monaco
  • Forwards Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi missed the Ligue 1 game due to injury
  • Christophe Galtier's men will have a rather uphill task in midweek when they face a resurgent Bayern Munich in the Champions League

Paris Saint-Germain's disappointing start to 2023 continued unabated with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of AS Monaco.

Christophe Galtier's charges' poor run can be attributed to a myriad of reasons including over-reliance on the vaunted attacking trio Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi.

Aside from that, the midfield additions from this summer are underperforming which makes it easier for opponents to breach the already troubled defensive set-up, BFW reports.

The defeat against Monaco, the fourth in just two months this year, is a dress rehearsal for the upcoming round-of-16 Champions League clash against Bayern Munich, who will be licking their lips, per GOAL.

After the Monaco match and with Bayern on the horizon, PSG fans trooped to social media to register their displeasure with the chain of poor results.

How did PSG fans react to their defeat?

Some section of the fans even congratulated Bayern in advance considering the recent streak of bad results:

@Ani7ii tweeted:

"Congratulations on Bayern Munich making it to the QF. Knocked out in back-to-back round of 16."

@lmessi7bdr boldly predicted:

"Bayern 4 PSG 1."

@JameslyChery5 added:

"Christophe Galtier writing his resignation letter before playing against Bayern."

Another disappointed PSGG fan @novemberI8th wrote:

"If Galtier fears the wrath of God he will resign first thing in the morning."

@Psg13871 quipped:

"Galtier out?"

PSG slip to another defeat

A Paris Saint-Germain side missing the injured Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe and hit by a stomach bug warmed up for their Champions League last-16 first leg against Bayern Munich by going down to a 3-1 defeat at Monaco in Ligue 1 on Saturday, their second defeat in four days, Sports Brief earlier reported.

All the goals came in the first half at the Stade Louis II, with Aleksandr Golovin putting Monaco ahead inside four minutes and Wissam Ben Yedder doubling the home side's lead.

The 16-year-old Warren Zaire-Emery pulled one back for PSG but Ben Yedder scored his second of the game, and 19th of the season, to make it 3-1 in first-half stoppage time.
