Barcelona president, Joan Laporta has responded to Lionel Messi's brother, Matias' stunning attack by declining to make a fuss about it.

Matias was skeptical of his superstar sibling returning to the club which he left in tears in the summer of 2021.

"He is [Messi's] brother. It's sad how it ended. I wouldn't give it any more importance. I understand what [Matias] can say, but he has apologised and it's appreciated. I don't want to say anything out of respect for [Messi] and PSG. The brother has apologised."

Laporta added that a big deal should not be made out of the situation.

"It doesn't affect the relationship between Leo and Barcelona."

Messi has been constantly linked with a return to Barcelona. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is yet to pen a new deal with Paris Saint-Germain, with his current contract set to expire in the summer.

Laporta makes summer transfer promises

Meanwhile, Barcelona president, Laporta has suggested the Catalan club will look to spend in the summer transfer window and bring new additions to the team, Daily Express reports.

Diogo Dalot, Iklay Gundogan, and Bernardo Silva have all been linked with a move to La Blaugrana, which might now make a significant push for the signatures in the next six months.

The La Liga giants are also pushing to re-sign Messi as a free agent, should the Argentine opt not to extend his current deal with PSG in the summer.

Laporta happy with ESL progress

Sports Brief also reported on Laporta saying plans for the European Super League were going ahead and he expected a favourable court ruling for the breakaway competition.

European football was rocked in 2021 by an attempt by 12 clubs to set up a new league structure, but most pulled out of the project after intense backlash from fans and governments.

Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus have continued to insist on a potential European Super League, despite disapproval from parties including UEFA and FIFA.
