  • Mamelodi Sundowns FC is currently the jet-setter of South African football at the moment
  • Their complete dominance of the country's landscape has grabbed the attention of the world
  • The Brazilians' junior outfit were welcomed by Kevin de Bruyne himself to his cup competition

Mamelodi Sundowns will be taking on the very best on the planet - at the junior level, that is - though this barely reduces the club's prestige.

The club's under-15 boys team has been invited to participate in the 2023 Kevin De Bruyne Cup.

They will take on the likes of Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, K.A.A. Gent, Club Brugge, Odense Boldklub and Palmeiras.

"It's a proud moment for me to welcome Mamelodi Sundowns as the first African team to participate in the tournament. We are well aware of the success and values Mamelodi Sundowns stands for as a club, and I have no doubt their youth team will be a wonderful addition to the team roster.

KDB further expressed excitement at meeting the Sundows team and said he could not wait to meet new South African friends in June.

"Best of luck!" he added.

The club's Twitter account responded to de Bruyne by saying:

"We appreciate the invitation Champ," with the club's iconic pointing finger.

Sundowns stars attend cricket match

Several Sundowns players were in attendance for the first semi-final of the SA20 cricket competition, that was held at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.

Bafana Bafana players, Ronwen Williams, Reyaad Pieterse, Andile Jali and Zambian colleague, Kennedy Mweene watched the Paarl Royals versus the Pretoria Capitals.

The other semi-final tomorrow will see the home team, the Joburg Super Kings take on the Sunrisers Eastern Cape for the other spot in the tournament's decider.

Orlando Pirates 'deserved penalty'

Orlando Pirates should have been awarded a penalty against Sundowns and Themba Zwane should have been shown a red card for a dangerous tackle.

This was the conclusion of Andile 'Ace' Ncobo on SuperSport's Extra Time, after the defending DStv Premiership champions beat the Buccaneers last Saturday.

Respected former referee, 'Mr Spot On' broke it all down on the punditry show while dissecting crucial incidents he said influenced the game's outcome.
