Playing football is now one of the highest-paid careers across the globe, with stars coming into top clubs able to rake in millions of dollars.
Quite a number of parents have also sent their kids to football academies, with some famous Nigerian internationals seeing their children follow in their footsteps.
Here are 4 sons of Nigerian footballers who are following their father’s footsteps:
1. Kevin Maussi Martins
He is the son of former Super Eagles striker, Obafemi Martins. Kevin’s dad made 42 appearances for the Super Eagles and scored 19 goals. ‘Obagoal’ also featured for a number of top clubs, including Inter Milan and Newcastle United.

He last played in 2020 and now his son Martins has laced up the family boots. Kevin recently signed his first professional contract with Serie A club, Monza. The 18-year-old striker featured for both AC Milan and Inter Milan before the transfer.
His new club tweeted:
“First professional contract for striker born in 2005 Kevin Maussi Martins, who made his debut with AC Monza in the #spring 2-0 victory over Padova.”
2. Sean Kanu
He is the son of Arsenal legend, Kanu Nwankwo. Sean’s decision to pick a footballing career has tempted football fans to compare him with his father.
Sean was once a member of Watford's U-16 outfit and is beginning to live up to his father’s legacy. National Daily reports that the youngster, who will be 18 in February, has continued with his fine form.

The youngster is the son of former Super Eagles defender, Jero Shakpoke. During his active days, Shakpoke made six appearances for the Nigerian national team and played for several clubs in Europe including Nice, Reggiana and Bologna.
His son, Reuben is already making waves. He joined Aston Villa in October 2020, linking up with the Under-18 squad after completing a move from Norwich City.
In January, he was on the scoresheet as Aston Villa cruised to the Tividale, in Round Three of the Birmingham Senior Cup.
4. Kaye Iyowuna Furo
Kaye Furo is trying to follow in his dad's footsteps in Belgium. The teen plays for Club Brugge. Furo Iyenemi, the father of Kaye, played for Nigeria at the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

FootballHe was also in the Super Eagles team that lost the AFCON final to Cameroon in 2000. He made five appearances for the Nigerian national team in the same year.
Iyenemi was also a member of the U23 squad that year.
USA to hijack Balogun deal
Sports Brief earlier reported on United States football officials being urged to hijack Folarin Balogun from Nigeria and England.
The player's impressive performances in the Ligue 1 this season, including scoring 14 goals for Reims, puts him ahead of the likes of Neymar.
The United States of America are reportedly planning to make sure that Balogun plays for them on an international level.
