- Former Bayer Leverkusen man Kai Havertz was left heartbroken after seeing the images from the flood incident in Germany last month
- The natural disaster destroyed lives and properties with many still don't have where to stay while others are battling for survival
- Havertz has now been moved with compassion to donate a sum of €200,000 in a bid to provide help for those affected
Kai Havertz wrapped up Chelsea's 2020-21 campaign in style after his goal helped them beat Manchester City to lift their second ever Champions League glory.
The 22-year-old has however not given up on providing solutions to problems as the midfielder was said to have donated a sum of €200,000 to the Red Cross to help flood victims in Germany.
Goal reports that images of the natural disaster shocked the former Bayer Leverkusen man after his own Rhineland region was especially hard hit over the course of July.
The publication added that he will not stop at just dropping money, he is also working towards raising funds as the unfortunate occurrence continues to affect families weeks after the event.
Havertz learnt about the incident from his father who sent him pictures and videos after Germany were dumped out of the summer competition as reported by BBC.
What Kai Havertz said
"To be honest I didn't take what he said seriously because sometimes that happens. But then he sent us the videos and pictures.
"It was horrible. You could see everything was flooded, cars were floating around, there were people in the water. It was hard because I lived maybe 20 minutes away from where it happened.
"I mean, I grew up there, so I think right now it's still a good time to help. Still, they have a lot of problems."
Havertz is also planning to sell about 100 boots in an auction just to be able to raise more money to help all those affected by the flooding.
