  • Manchester City have been accused of financial breaches in the Premier League between 2009 and 2018
  • The reigning champions are expected to face several sanctions should they be found guilty of the charges
  • The punishments are understood to range from points deductions to possible expulsion from the Premier League
  • Expulsion from the English topflight would see teams that have picked points from the Citizens lose them

The 2022/23 Premier League table would witness massive changes would Man City be kicked out of the English top-flight for alleged financial breaches.

City were on Monday, February 6, charged with more than 100 financial breaches committed between 2009 and 2018.

According to The Sun, the reigning Premier League champions are in danger of facing possible punishments if they are found guilty of the accusations.

The publication reports that the sanctions range from points deduction, transfer bans, and even expulsion from the Premier League.

Such sanctions are not foreign to English football, with Dover Athletic famously seeing their results expunged during the 2020-21 National League campaign.

Should the same fate face Man City, SunSport reports that all the teams that have already played the EPL giants would see their results voided.

The Pep Guardiola-tutored side have played 21 matches so far, with four of them ending in defeats and drawing three others.

EPL table without Man City

In the event Man City are kicked out of the Premier League, Arsenal would undoubtedly be the biggest beneficiary.

The Gunners are currently the firm favourites to win the EPL but face stiff competition from Man City, with only five points separating the two teams at the top.

The expungement of City from the league would leave Arsenal sitting 11 points clear at the top, with Newcastle moving to second with 39 points.

Man United, meanwhile, would drop to third with 39 points, with Tottenham sneaking into the top four.

However, there would not be many changes in the relegation zone, with Everton, Southampton, and Bournemouth all left battling the drop.

Five punishments Manchester City could face

Sports Brief earlier reported that Manchester City are in danger of getting severe punishment should they be found guilty of financial breaches.

City are alleged to have breached Premier League financial guidelines between 2009 and 2018 following a four-year probe.

The Premier League accused the Citizens of violating rules instructing them to provide ‘accurate financial information' that gives a true and fair view of their financial position.
