Los Blancos manager Carlo Ancelotti believes it’s more of the latter.
The Italian manager expressed his sentiments after Madrid suffered their third loss of the season. As noted by the BBC, Madrid were beaten by Mallorca 1-0.
Ancelotti discusses Madrid’s loss
Speaking after the game, Ancelotti said that they expected a tough encounter, Football Espana reported.

“It was the game we expected, a very tough and difficult one. We haven’t had the luck to handle it. We’ve had opportunities and we haven’t taken advantage of them. It was difficult to play between the lines, we tried and it didn’t go well,” he said.
An early own goal
Madrid went behind as early as the 13th minute after Nacho’s defensive header flew into the back of the Los Blancos net. Prior to the goal, Mallorca looked the more likely to score.
A missed penalty
Madrid did have a chance to level matters when they were given a penalty in the 57th minute. Los Blancos were given the penalty after Predrag Rajković brought down Vinicius Junior in the box. Marco Asensio stepped up to the spot but failed to beat Rajković in the Mallorca goal.
Barcelona could pull away
With Madrid once again dropping points, Barcelona have the chance to extend their lead over their rivals to as much as 11 points before Ancelotti’s men play again in La Liga. Madrid now turns their attention to the Club World Cup before facing Elche in La Liga on February 15.
