  • Manchester United held on to beat Crystal Palace 2-1 despite finishing the game with 10 men
  • Brazilian midfielder Casemiro was sent off for violent conduct after a fight broke out
  • The club are weighing their options on whether to appeal or let him serve his three game ban

Manchester United endured a difficult end to their 2-1 win over Crystal Palace as they were forced to defend hard after going one man down in the 70th minute after Casemiro was shown a straight red card.

It was the first time the Brazilian was sent off straight in his career despite being a tough tackler. He grabbed the neck of Palace midfielder Will Hughes during a scuffle that broke out during the game.

United's defence of the situation was not that their midfielder should not have been sent off but other players should too which leaves them in a difficult position whether to appeal or not, as reported by Manchester Evening News.

Ten Hag's comments on the red card

Manchester United head coach Erik Ten Hag was not the happiest person with the incident and felt other players should have been punished for crossing the line, similarly to Casemiro.

“My interpretation is the same but you see the same things. When Casemiro is sent off in this incident, many more players need to be sent off,” he said after the game, quoted by United District.

Will Manchester United appeal?

Casemiro is set to miss three games, a double header against Leeds United as well as the match against Leicester City, luckily escaping missing out on the Carabao Cup final, which he could still miss if United lodge a failed appeal.

''A straight red card can be overturned if an appeal is lodged. In the event of a successful appeal, the suspension will be cancelled. But if the FA rule a club has lodged a 'frivolous' appeal, a three-game ban can be increased to four,'' the rule states as quoted by United Plug.
“We have to think about it but also when you freeze it, then Casemiro is crossing the line. But many more players were crossing the line.” Ten Hag added.

De Gea mocks VAR

Sports Brief earlier reported that United goalkeeper David De Gea mocked the video assistant referee after his teammate was sent off in the intense game against Crystal Palace.

The Spanish goalkeeper uploaded a gif image of former boss Jose Mourinho on Twitter. Jose in the famous gif said if I speak I will be in trouble.

The Red Devils will be happy to have come out of the match with full points despite Palace's late resurgence.
