Football"What About Our Electricity": SA Government Blasted for Proposed Spurs Sponsorship
- South Africans woke to the news that SA Tourism intended to become one of Tottenham's title sponsors
- The three-year-long deal would last three years and would be worth nearly one billion Rands
- Overwhelmingly, if social media is to be believed, this has proven to be an unpopular proposal considering the problems that the country is going through
South Africa's government would do best to read the room.
The administration's proposed move to sponsor Tottenham Hotspur under its marketing arm has been interpreted as being tone deaf considering the problems the country is going throw.

BT Zietsman angrily responded:
"I understand how marketing works, and that they want to promote the brand SA, but this is ludicrous, a country that is being led into a state of disaster, that has people starving to death, with an unemployment rate of almost 50% has a billion rand to sponsor a foreign soccer team?? What a joke."
Eben Kriek riffed:
"We don't have electricity, but we want to spend public funds so that entitled honourable members can wine and dine in the premier league. WTH man."
Steve Kistasamy said:
"We have people without food or shelter in South Africa and our government wants to do what? This is utter madness. I wonder how much of that money will find its way back into the ANC's pockets."

FootballAn exclusive report by the Daily Maverick has revealed that the administration's market agency, SA Tourism is seeking to become one of the North London outfit's title sponsors. The deal is said to be in the region of about R1-billion (£42.5 million) over three years.
It is similar to the talked-about deal between the 'Visit Rwanda' campaign by that country's government and Spurs' arch-rivals, Arsenal.
