Former Nigerian international Peter Ijeh has credited hard work, dedication, and commitment to Morocco’s success at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Atlas Lions stunned the globe, becoming the first African nation to reach the semifinals of the global show-piece after a 1-0 win over Portugal in the quarter-final.

Youssef En-Nesyri's first-half header goal sealed a tense 1-0 victory over a Cristiano Ronaldo captained side at the prestigious Al Thumama Stadium, Channels TV reports.

The North Africans later lost 2-1 to Croatia in the third-place play-off, but they returned home to a welcome like they had won the trophy.

Ex-striker Peter Ijeh, in a chat with Sports Brief said:

“Moroccans shows that hard work, commitment, and dedication are essential and can ride high and be the pride of your country or continent.
“The World Cup express variation of formats and players specifics. I guess coaches and players have learnt a lot.
“The organization, structures & next level of the World Cup will resonate into many decades of sport athleticism, culture and Identity.
“I hope that has sent a shockwave and be a wakeup call to do things right so that the future will be guaranteed. If you don’t do the right thing today, the future is not coming.”

Hakimi named Arab Sportsman of the Year

Sports Brief earlier reported that Morocco and Paris Saint Germain defender Achraf Hakimi was named the best Arab Sportsman of the Year at the Joy Sports Awards in Riyadh.

Hakimi beat Mohammed Al Owais, Salem Al Dosari and Yazid Al Rajhi for the top award.

The star expressed excitement, thanking his mother for her support, while dedicating the moment to his Morocco and PSG teammates.
