Leicester City defender Daniel Amartey has praised teammate Kelechi Iheanacho after netting the winner in the FA Cup clash against Walsall.

The Nigeria forward scored to send the Foxes into the fifth round of the FA Cup, extending his record in the competition to 17 goals in 23 matches.

Iheanacho is the African player with the most goals in the FA Cup.

The Ghanaian defender lauded Iheanacho for his latest mark, insisting the competition was made for the Nigerian.

“I think this tournament is for Kelechi. I will say that because every game he will come in and score in this tournament. I'm happy for him," Amartey told Leicester City media.

“It was good for the team [to have Maddison back], and you can see the movement. I think we missed him, and I thank God that he is back now. It's sweet.

“He (Victor Kristiansen) is good. It’s a different game, but I think he knows, he listens to us, so yes, it's good.”

Amartey and Iheanacho are rivals internationally, and faced off against each other during the World Cup play-offs last year.

The Black Stars and Super Eagles players were part of the Leicester City squad that beat Chelsea to win the FA Cup in 2021.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Kelechi Iheanacho on Saturday night, 28 January, came off the bench to score the winner for Leicester City in their FA Cup win over Walsall for them to qualify for the fifth round.

The Nigerian forward has now become a specialist in the FA Cup with some fans even joking that the competition should be renamed after the Super Eagles star.

It was the Nigeria international's 17th goal in 23 FA Cup appearances - the most by any player since Iheanacho made his debut in the competition in 2016.
