Ighalo Names Bendel Insurance As Possible NPFL Retirement Destination

Super Eagles veteran, Odion Ighalo has disclosed that he could be making a move to Nigerian League giants, Bendel Insurance FC as a retirement destination.

The striker is gradually progressing towards the latter stages of his professional football career, having played for clubs like Watford, Udinese and Manchester United.

In fact, he holds a record as the first Nigerian to play for the Red Devils, despite only spending one season at Old Trafford.

The 33-year-old is currently playing for Al-Hilal in the Saudi Arabian League, having joined them from Al Shabab in 2022.

According to the report by Pulse, Ighalo spoke to broadcaster SuperSport TV and explained that the Nigerian League should be worked on and that NPFL games should be on television.

"The league have to be well organised. A lot of money will be pumped into the game and matches should be on television. If I am to Nigeria, I will go to Bendel Insurance."

Sports Brief called Insurance coach, Monday Odigwe to hear his reaction on the statement made by Ighalo and he expressed happiness at the comment.

''There is no coach in Nigeria that will not want to have Ighalo in his team, considering his experience and who he is. He has made his name and having him in my squad will help us."

''If he wants to come, the doors are open for him because he is someone who will boost the morale of other players.''

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Nigerian international, Ighalo expressing disappointment about Nigeria missing out on the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The three-time African champions were close to qualifying for the global showpiece and only needed to beat Ghana in Abuja.

The first leg of the final round of the qualifiers had ended 0-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi - with the final 90 minutes to be decided in the Nigerian capital.
