  • The Italian club are after a permanent transfer but Spurs are only offering a short-term loan

The January transfer window is only open for another eight or so days.

As usual, some deadline day drama is already building up, with some clubs and players already deciding they need to make the next move, either due to World Cup performances or because of a lack in minutes.

Tottenham Hotspur is a club in crisis and wants reinforcement in attack.

Former Tottenham boss and current manager of Roma, Jose Mourinho has waded in on the matter.

What he said will likely come as a bad news for his former club, and could offer some relief to the Giallorossa fans, according to EuroFoot.

Mourinho shares Zaniolo update

Zaniolo was one of Italy's best young players before he suffered two ACL injuries in less than a year. He has not been the same player since then, even though his talent is undeniable, as reported by Sports Illustrated.

Mourinho, speaking after the 2-0 win over Spezia on Zaniolo's reported transfer, as quoted by Football Italia, confirmed the 23-year-old asked to leave the Italian capital.

However, the Special One has a feeling the Italian would still be at the club by the end of the transfer window.

“I have my opinion and my sensation that come February 1, [Zaniolo] will still be here. I realise Nicolò wants to leave, but that is what I feel.He said he wants to leave. But that doesn’t mean he will leave."

Mourinho framed his comments with the importance of the Italian to the team and his value in the transfer market.

“The offers on the table are unworthy of him or the club. There’s nothing out there. This is why it is my sensation that he will be here in February,” he added.

According to Sky Italia, Roma value Zaniolo at £35-million, a figure Antonio Conte's Tottenham are probably not willing to gamble on a player with record of injuries.

Arsenal interested in Zaniolo

Sports Brief earlier reported that Arsenal are interested in Zaniolo to bolster their attack, as they continue the chase for a first Premier League title since 2004.

It now remains to be seen whether the Gunners are still interested, after signing Belgian forward, Leandro Trossard from Brighton for £27-mil.

Zaniolo scored the winner for AS Roma in their UEFA Europa Conference League win over Feyenoord last year, the club's first trophy since 2008.
