Barcelona duo Robert Lewandowski and Gavi were both on target as the Catalan giants thumped Real Madrid 3-1 to win the Spanish Super Cup on Sunday.

The pair assisted each other on the night and are developing a strong bond at Camp Nou despite the 16-year age difference between the striker and the midfielder.

Lewandowski reportedly “saw something special” in Gavi the moment he arrived at Barcelona in the summer from Bayern Munich.

According to Mundo Deportivo, noted by Barca Universal, Lewandowski approached and gave Gavi advice in a bid to help the teenager’s career on and off the pitch.

Lewandowski's three key pieces of advice

Lewandowski told Gavi he needs to learn English, eat a balanced diet and also to stay away from fizzy drinks.

The striker has previously revealed the adjustments he’s made to his diet which he feels have helped keep him in top shape as he heads towards the end of his career.

Lewandowski has said he sometimes has cornflakes for breakfast “or steak tartare” and has cut sweet treats and cows’ milk out of his diet completely.

Gavi puts on a masterclass

Gavi produced one of his best displays in a Barcelona shirt, creating two assists and scoring once, as the Catalans routed the defending champions 3-1 to claim their first trophy under Xavi.

The 18-year-old midfielder also won seven of the nine ground duels, had 88 percent pass accuracy, and had 100 percent of his tackles won, leading his manager to sing his praises, Football Espana reports.

Coach Xavi lauds Gavi

Barcelona manager Xavi had nothing but praise for his teenage star performer, Gavi, Sports Brief earlier reported.

The former Barcelona midfielder is still in awe of the performance of Spanish midfielder, after the Super Cup final victory against Real Madrid on Sunday, January 15.

Xavi was impressed with the depth shown by Gavi, saying the youngster showed a side to his football never witnessed before by the coach.
