Walid Regragui who is the head coach of the Moroccan national team has made the list of nominees for the Best FIFA Men's coach of the year award.

Against all odds, Regragui steered Morocco to the semi-final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar before losing against France.

They also defeated the likes of Spain and Portugal with Cristiano Ronaldo spotted crying after his nation's loss against Morocco in the quarterfinals.

Morocco also made history in Qatar as they became the first ever African country to reach the semifinals of the World and earned big respect from fans.

Who are the other nominees?

According to a post seen on Twitter, Regragui will face serious competition from Lionel Scaloni, Didier Deschamps, Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guadioala for the award.

Scaloni helped Argentina to win the World Cup beating France in a final that was settled via penalties.

Deschamps was unable to retain the World Cup with France, while Ancelotti last season won the Spanish La Liga title and Champions League.

Guardiola and his wards at Manchester City are the reigning champions of England.

Morocco gets heroic welcome.

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Morocco national football team was accorded a heroic welcome after jetting back home from the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The North Africans enjoyed a successful campaign during the global football showpiece as they became the first team in history from the continent to reach the semis.

Morocco made it to the semis after facing off against some of the best teams in the world, including Belgium, Croatia, and Portugal.

The Atlas Lions finished top of Group G with seven points, with their impressive finish helping them set up a crunch meeting with Spain in the round of 16.

They went on to face Portugal in the quarter-final before battling France in the semis, who eventually eliminated them.
