A former head coach of Nigeria’s Falconets, Dan Evumena, has been reported dead following a brief illness.
Evumena was in charge of the Falconets squad that reached the quarter-final stage of the 2008 World Cup in Chile.
Further reports have it that the former tactician passed away at the Federal Medical Center, FMC Asaba, Delta State.
His colleague Mansur Abdullahi confirmed the sad news to Premium Times. Abdullahi stated that Evumena's death was a painful one. He added:

“Well, he was a hardworking person, he was dedicated to his job, and he was a disciplinarian. He was a senior citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria because he was retired from civil service as a senior immigration officer.
“He was my coursemate; just last year we graduated from London University in Sport Management. It is quite sad.”
According to Coach Mansur, the late Evumena fell sick just before Christmas and sadly never got over it.
“He fell sick on the 24th of last month and a few days ago, he went into a coma and gave up.”
Kano Pillars’ striker dies
Meanwhile, Kano Pillars star Ebuka Odenigbo passed away, throwing the entire Nigeria Professional Football League community into mourning.
The circumstances leading to the death of the footballer could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report.
The 21-year-old had been impressive since joining Sai Masu Gida in 2018 and was part of the squad for Pillars last season.
