  • Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang did not feature for Chelsea during their 4-0 FA Cup loss to Man City
  • The forward's absence came at a time the Blues were deprived of attacking options, with Sterling, Pulisic, and Broja all sidelined
  • Aubameyang has failed to hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge since his move to the west London club in the summer
  • The former Arsenal skipper has scored just one Premier League goal so far in a blue shirt

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was not part of Chelsea's squad that was hammered by Man City during the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday, January 8.

Graham Potter, who was without a number of key players for the clash, opted to start Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech upfront.

However, the tactical move did not pay off as the Blues were demolished 4-0 to bow out of the tournament.

A brace from Riyad Mahrez and a goal each from Phil Foden and Julian Alvarez were enough to send City to the next round of the competition.

Auba misses FA Cup clash

The conspicuous absence of Aubameyang from Chelsea's starting XI was of major concern to several fans.

Metro UK reports that the striker's absence came just days after he was spotted cutting a dejected face during his side's 1-0 defeat Premier League defeat to Man City on Thursday evening.

At the time, the Gabonese had suffered the ignominy of being substituted as a substitute in the second half.

Speaking after the FA Cup encounter, Potter revealed that the former Arsenal star missed the Etihad Stadium trip due to a back complaint.

"Auba felt pain in his back ahead of this one," Potter said via Metro UK.

Auba has failed to hit the ground running since his move to Stamford Bridge in the summer, with the forward scoring just one Premier League goal so far.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's career at Chelsea took another nose-dive on January 5 at Stamford Bridge.

The striker was pulled off in the second half despite being a first-half substitute himself.

He has scored three goals for Chelsea since joining them from Barcelona before the end of the transfer window.
