Zinedine Zidane is one of football's all-time greats, but he knows a player who is better than him.
The former French legend once weighed in on the 'greatest of all time' debate, and his comments have resurfaced once again.
The former French international was previously asked to pick between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, and he explained why he thought the Portuguese star was better than the Argentinian, Goal reported.
"Cristiano is the best. Messi is his rival and it's the rivalry everyone wants to see. But Ronaldo is phenomenal. There are no words to describe him. He is much better than me, even though I had a great career. He's the greatest of all time," he said at the time.
Zidane and Ronaldo's relationship
The Frenchman knows the new Al-Nassr signing quite well, having coached him at Real Madrid. Zidane spent four years at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium and got to work with Ronaldo during that period.
The veteran striker played 114 matches and scored 112 goals during his time under Zidane, SportsKeeda noted.
Could Zidane's opinion change?
The Frenchman made the statement in the past, before Messi's World Cup win, and some feel his opinion might have changed since.
The Argentinian solidified his legacy by lifting the trophy with Argentina, while Ronaldo because the highest-paid earner in the sporting world with his move to Saudi Arabia.
