Arsenal Icon Thierry Henry Declares Interest in Vacant Belgium Job

Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry wants to take over the vacant Belgium national team job and has made his intention known to the country’s football authorities.

Henry recently served as assistant coach to recently departed Robert Martinez at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where Belgium crashed out in the group stage.

According to the Daily Mail, the French legend wants the top Belgium job and is willing to take a lesser salary than Martinez ,who earned a whopping £2.65-million per year as manager.

It's understood the former Arsenal forward earned around £88,500 in his first stint as assistant coach, which he donated to charity.

Henry has bagged some experience as a top manager of a team, after stints as head coach with Monaco and Montreal Impact (now CF Montreal).

Lukaku wants Henry at Belgium

Inter Milan forward, Romelu Lukaku urged Belgium to hire Henry as the country’s next manager to replace outgoing boss Martinez, the Evening Standard had reported.

Lukaku said the French legend had already earned the respect of most of the current Red Devils unit, and felt he deserved to take over coaching duties of the national team.

The former Manchester United forward believes Henry will be the coach to take Belgium to the heights they sought, after failing woefully at the 2022 World Cup.

Giroud equals Henry’s scoring record

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Olivier Giroud bagging 51 goals for France, to put him on the cusp of making goal-scoring history for his country.

The 36-year-old was handed a starting berth for Les Bleus against Australia at the Al Janoub Stadium during the countries' World Cup tie.

The AC Milan striker then registered his first goal to make it 2-1 in the 32nd minute, before Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe added a third.
