  • Nigerian Football leaders have been warned not to beg any player born in Europe to play for the country
  • This advice came from from Super Eagles assistant coach, Sylvanus Okpala, who wants things corrected
  • Okpala made it clear that there are many players in the Nigerian League who are ready to play for Super Eagles

Sylvanus Okpala who was former assistant coach in the Super Eagles has urged the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), and those currently in charge of the team not to beg any player to play for Nigeria.

Okpala laid emphasis that no player born outside Nigeria should be begged this year to play for the three-time African champions.

Over the years, the Nigerian Football chiefs struggled to make some players play for the Super Eagles in which many of them rejected the offers.

According to the report on Naija Footballer, Okpala explained that such thing must be corrected in the Super Eagles claiming that there are many home based players who can make the country proud.

Statement made by Okpala

“One thing that must be corrected for the Super Eagles to return to it’s glorious days is, for coaches and the NFF not to beg any player to play for the team. When a player turns down the offer of playing for the Super Eagles, he should be left alone.''

Okpala also stated that this can help the Super Eagles to win the AFCON and even the World Cup.

Mathew Yakubu welcomes twins

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Nigerian goalkeeper Mathew Yakubu was blessed with twins, just four months after he married his Slovakian wife in what was a quiet ceremony.

The Super Eagles invitee was part of Nigeria's bronze winning team at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, and he is targeting to get the chance into the main team for the three-time African champions.

Yakubu, who tied the knot with his partner last September, took to Instagram to tell his fans that he is now a father.

The identity of Yakubu's wife has not been revealed to the public by the Nigerian footballer, who has chosen to keep her details private.
