  • Neymar's return to club football after the 2022 World Cup did not follow the scripts
  • He first provided a sublime assist before being sent off with a red for a blatant dive
  • Despite being carded, the PSG playmaker gave his football fans a moment to savour

Neymar had a mixed bag of extreme highs and lows on his return to club action with Paris Saint-Germain.

The 30-year-old forward embellished his eccentric character with a sublime assist, an outrageous skill, and of course a needless red card in PSG's first fixture after the World Cup break.

Fresh from Brazil's quarter-final heartbreak, Neymar made his presence felt against Strasbourg, setting up compatriot Marquinhos to break the deadlock with a superb assist.

However, he dented his evening with quickfire yellow cards, first for leaving his hand in the face of his marker and then another for a ridiculous dive, per ESPN.

Despite the low point of receiving his marching orders, Neymar produced one of the highlight reels of the game with stunning skill.

What did Neymar do?

Surrounded by a tree of Strasbourg players, the Brazilian playmaker conjured a magical moment as he nutmegged his marker with an elastico, Express reports.

Mbappe steps up for PSG

Kylian Mbappe scored a penalty in injury time to seal a 2-1 win for PSG in the Ligue 1 on Wednesday, before admitting he will never get over France's World Cup defeat to Argentina.

Mbappe was back in action 10 days after scoring a hat-trick in the final, but then seeing the South Americans win via a penalty shootout.

PSG had Neymar sent off for two yellow cards, as the Brazilian made an unhappy return to action following his country's elimination in the World Cup quarter-finals.

Neymar carded on PSG return

Sports Brief earlier reported that Neymar’s return to Paris Saint-Germain did not go to plan.

The Brazilian attacker was looking to put his World Cup woes behind him and focus on continued success with the French side, but unfortunately made headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Neymar was sent off in PSG’s game against RC Strasbourg, after he picked up two yellow cards in the space of two minutes.
