  • Kevin De Bruyne impressed in Manchester City's 3-2 win over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup
  • Pep Guardiola heaped praise on KDB, labeling him a 'City legend' for his club contribution
  • The Belgian had a 2022 World Cup to forget as he failed to record any success on the attack

Manchester City made it to the Carabao Cup quarter-final by recording a 3-2 victory over Liverpool in the round of 16.

Kevin De Bruyne provided two assists for his teammates - first to Erling Haaland to open the scoring and later to Nathan Aké to seal the win - as he continues his impressive form for Pep Guardiola's side.

Guardiola has now praised the Belgian playmaker for his contributions in the game, and more importantly to the club over eight years, branding him as a legend of the Manchester team.

Guardiola praises legendary De Bruyne

Kevin De Bruyne went to the World Cup and made no attacking contribution for Belgium, but has scored three goals and provided 15 assists in 20 games for Manchester City in all competitions this season, according to Transfermarkt.

Guardiola, speaking to BBC Sports after the 31-year-old provided two assists against the Reds, praised his impact despite a poor World Cup outing.

''The first training session he was back, I was not here, but I was told it was brilliant. The game against Girona was brilliant, and today he was outstanding. I know it is not easy to find every three days this consistency, but today he has something inside that says: 'I am going to it, I want to fight'."

Pep reflected on the years since midfielder KDB joined Manchester City, and branded him a club legend and one of the greatest to ever play for the Citizens.

''Mr Kevin de Bruyne. What can I say? Eight years he has done everything for this club, an absolute legend. He will be remembered forever as one of the greatest, greatest, greatest players of this club," added Guardiola.

KDB wants more trophies

Sports Brief earlier reported that De Bruyne has put the World Cup behind him, as he shifts his focus to winning more trophies with Manchester City.

Last night's performance from the former Chelsea player helped the Citizens take another step closer to securing another trophy.

The UEFA Champions League remains the only trophy left for De Bruyne to win with the English league giants.
