Former Ghana Forward Prince Tagoe Remanded in Custody for Alleged Fraud

Former Black Stars striker, Prince Tagoe, has been remanded into police custody for allegedly defrauding George Antwi Boateng, a former footballer.

The Hearts of Oak legend was in court on Wednesday after he was reported for allegedly defrauding Black Stars assistant coach George Boateng.

Tagoe will be in custody until January 4, 2023, according to the Circuit Court in Accra presided over by His Honour Mr. Samuel Bright Acquah.

Reports in Ghana reveal, the former Hoffenheim player went into an agreement with the ex-Aston Villa midfielder to import a 4X4 Lexus vehicle for an amount of $40,000 in 2020.

However, the 2004 CAF Confederation Cup winner has failed to honour his side of the deal, leading to his arrest.

Details of proceedings indicated that $40,000 has been paid into the accused account, First Atlantic Bank Account No. 0016531332032, with an acknowledgement of receipt.

Tagoe was supposed to get the vehicle in Ghana in March 2021, but it's been almost two years and the complainant is yet to get his part of the deal honoured.

The former Hearts of Oak striker pleaded not guilty. His attorney, Lawyer George Asamani had prayed for the accused to be granted bail but prosecutor Chief Inspector Agartha Abena Asantewaa opposed the request, claiming the accused is a flight risk. The next hearing is in January.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former Black Stars striker Prince Tagoe has disclosed rejecting a move to French giants Paris Saint Germain to stay at Ghana Premier League side Hearts of Oak.
