FootballFootball Legend Claims Kaizer Chiefs Fired Him Because of Muthi
- More stories of muthi and its influence on South African (and African) football have emerged
- The legendary former Qwa-Qwa Stars player Fees Moloi has stepped forward to tell his story
- He claims that a Soweto giant railroaded him out of the club for refusing to partake in rituals
For as long as time remains constant, there will be stories of muthi being intertwined with South African football - as well as the rest of the continent.
This time, it was the turn of the well-travelled Fees Moloi to tell his story, regarding the prevalence of superstition in local football.
Speaking to Kick Off, Moloi said:
"But in football, you don't have much of a choice because sometimes muthi is put on jerseys. I was once fired by my two former clubs for refusing to use muthi."

Moloi alleged that he was once travelling to Polokwane with Kaizer Chiefs, when the team bus stopped 'in the middle of nowhere' just after passing Warmbaths.
"We were then told to get off and go to the veld where we were supposed to meet some people. It was around something to 7pm. You have to leave the bus naked. You leave everything inside the bus."
Moloi said he and Jacob Tshisevhe had refused to leave the vehicle when the coach returned, he pointed at the pair and ordered them to leave.
"We were told to go back to Joburg so that two other players, who were intially not in our 18-man squad, should come and replace us. All that just because we refused to partake in a muthi ritual. We never played for Kaizer Chiefs again."

MTN8 rocked by muthi allegations
Yaya Toure's curse: What is it, the story behind it and is it true?
FootballSome rather sensational allegations have emerged in the wake of the MTN8 final in Durban earlier this year.
Unnamed personnel from Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu got into a confrontation in the bowels of the Moses Mabhida Stadium. It is alleged - without proof or second-hand information - that muthi was at the centre of the fight.
In April, just before a CAF Confederations Cup match at Orlando Stadium against Pirates, Simba SC players were seen burning an unknown object in the centre circle before a match.
