  • The Frenchman seems determined to put the heartbreak of the tournament behind him
  • Argentina beat France 4-2 on penalties in a match in which Mbappe scored his hat-trick

French star Kylian Mbappe has made his way back to Paris Saint-Germain, barely three days after the World Cup final heartbreak he suffered on Sunday, December 18.

Mbappe, who only recently turned 24, was the star of the show for France in the final as he bagged an impressive hat-trick, to help his side force Argentina to a penalty shootout when it looked like La Albiceleste had ran away with the game with a 2-0 lead.

Despite the heartbreak, he ended up thriving at the World Cup, winning the Golden Boot for scoring eight goals in the competition.

Daily Mail further reports the Frenchman was asked how he was doing after the World Cup, and his reply was short but concise, "Better, better, better."

Messi enjoying festivities in Argentina

Meanwhile, Mbappe’s club teammate Lionel Messi is still living his best life in Argentina, as he and his teammates continue to celebrate their first World Cup title since 1986.

The Argentina bus parade was so overwhelming on Tuesday, because of the large number of supporters, players had to abandon the vehicle and take a helicopter instead.

How PSG fare in Ligue 1

As far as PSG’s season is concerned, the French side is thriving in the league and was unbeaten in 15 games, prior to the World Cup break.

Mbappe was in typical scintillating form before the World Cup, scoring 19 goals and getting five assists in his first 20 games across all competitions.

In the Champions League, PSG finished second in their group behind Benfica. They face Bayern in the round of 16 on February 14.

Messi favorite for Ballon d’Or

Elsewhere, Sports Brief reported on how Messi now leads the line as a favourite for the 2023 Ballon d’Or award.

The 35-year-old captained Argentina to the World Cup trophy, winning the best player award in the tournament for his seven goals.

Messi has already notched a total of 24 goals and 18 assists in the 2022/23 season, and can also boast winning the World Cup and the Trophee des Champions.
