Players of the Argentine national team made sure they left Qatar with something to remind them of their historical feat at the end of the World Cup.

Argentine were crowned champions of the world for the third time after beating France on penalties to lift the trophy at Lusail Stadium.

Lionel Messi starred for the South Americans, scoring two goals in the final which was settled on penalties after his Paris Saint Germain teammate Kylian Mbappe netted a hat-trick.

The Argentina players wildly celebrated at the end of the game with their families, friends and former players.

Some also spent time at the goal post where the penalties were affected to cut the net in pieces for history purposes.

In photos shared on social media, the jubilant players led by former captain Gabriel Batistuta made sure they had a piece of the net for keeps.

Messi finished the tournament at the best player after netting seven goals while goalkeeper Emi Martinez won the golden glove. Kylian Mbappe pipped Messi to the golden boot award.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Lionel Messi has been crowned Player of the Tournament after leading Argentina to the 2022 FIFA World Cup triumph.

The Argentina star netted a brace as the South Americans defeated France on penalties to win their third World Cup.

Messi beat Paris Saint Germain teammate Kylian Mbappe to the top award while the France forward won the golden boot after netting a hat-trick in the final.
