Juventus star Angel Di Maria could not help but cry after scoring what proved to be an all-important cushion goal for Argentina at the World Cup final against France.

With everything at stake, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni gave Di Maria a rare start, perhaps to make use of the former Real Madrid man’s experience in cup finals.

It is kind to note that Di Maria was at the centre of the penalty decision, as some brilliant play in the France box instigated a poor tackle on him by Ousmanne Dembele.

In the 36th minute, the 34-year old made it 2-0 as he completed a sweeping counter attack from his nation to send Argentine fans in the Lusail Stadium into delirium.

Images and videos have since emerged showing Di Maria go from ecstatic to extremely emotional after his maiden goal at the World Cup final and it was clear it meant so much for him.

With the goal, Di Maria became the first men’s player in Argentina’s history to score in both the Copa America final as well as, the World Cup final.

Argentina are in the hunt for their first World Cup trophy for the first time since 1986.
