Croatia sealed third place at the soon-to-end 2022 FIFA World Cup after edging Morocco 2-1 on Saturday, December 17 at the Khalifa International Stadium.

The Europeans, who failed to repeat their 2018 run, ensured they finished on the podium for the second time on the bounce at the expense of the giant-killing Morocco.

Josko Gvardiol, one of the outstanding defenders at the tournament, broke the game's deadlock but the Atlas Lions responded swiftly through Achraf Dari.

Dinamo Zagreb forward Mislav Orsic restored the lead for Zlatko Dalic's charges with three minutes to half-time, which proved to be the match-winner as Croatia secured the third spot, per the Athletic.

Following the blast of the whistle and after bagging the bronze medal, the playing body switched to a celebratory mood in the dressing room, Croatia Week notes.

In a video shared on social media, seen by Sports Brief, the playing body alongside the technical team with arms across their shoulders chanted and rejoiced following their feat.

2018 World Cup finalists Croatia defeated Morocco 2-1 in the World Cup third-place play-off on Saturday, with Mislav Orsic curling home the winner.

Josko Gvardiol, one of the stars of the tournament in Qatar, headed Croatia into the lead in the seventh minute at the Khalifa International Stadium but Achraf Dari brought Morocco level right away.

Orsic's terrific curling strike late in the first half ensured Croatia took home the bronze medal, the 11th World Cup in a row a European team has finished third.

Modric plays with kids

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Luka Modric has been spotted playing with his children on the pitch on Saturday evening, 17 December, just minutes after Croatia defeated Morocco 2-1 in the World Cup 3rd place tie.

Croatia went into this game with aggressive minds having lost their semi-final game against Argentina, while Morocco suffered their first loss in the tournament against France.

Many Africans were expecting Morocco to shine in their game against Croatia, but the Europeans were more determined to win the game.
