  • Kylian Mbappe faces off against Leo Messi in a blockbuster World Cup final between France and Argentina on Sunday
  • Both players, currently on five goals, will be gunning for the ultimate prize in football as well as individual awards
  • Meanwhile, Mbappe's position in the Messi-Ronaldo GOAT debate has been revealed

Former Paris Saint-Germain defender Abdou Diallo has disclosed Kylian Mbappe's obsession with Cristiano Ronaldo.

Diallo, who spent three seasons with PSG before moving to Leipzig on loan, hinted the Frenchman has an entrenched position in the never-ending Messi vs Ronaldo GOAT debate.

The defender who reached the round of 16 stage at the 2022 World Cup with Senegal claimed Mbappe could argue at length, explaining why Ronaldo is better than Messi.

"Cristiano Ronaldo is literally everything to Kylian Mbappe," Diallo told Daily Mail. "If you mention Lionel Messi against Cristiano, Mbappe will debate with you for at least an hour. For him, Cristiano is untouchable."

Both Mbappe and Messi will meet, not as teammates but as rivals for football's coveted international trophy, the FIFA World Cup on Sunday, December 18, per GOAL.

Mbappe will have an extra impetus for the blockbuster World Cup final against Lionel Messi's Argentina, executing a task his idol - Ronaldo - will be proud of if France ends Messi's fairytale World Cup dreams.

Why Mbappe can't reach Messi

Sports columnist Graeme Souness recently came up with a scathing analysis of why Kylian Mbappe will never be as great as some of the legends of the game including Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona.

Mbappe has been in typical scintillating form at the Qatar World Cup, with his five strikes so far helping his side to a second successive final in the global spectacle.

France will face Argentina on Sunday in the penultimate showdown, with Mbappe getting a chance to get one over his club teammate Lionel Messi.

Mbappe warns Ronaldo, Messi

Sports Brief earlier reported that Kylian Mbappe is widely expected to take over the mantle from Lionel Messi when he retires in two or three years' time.

Messi has already indicated that the 2022 World Cup would be his last, signalling an end to an illustrious career that has seen him win everything bar one trophy.

He has previously warned both Ronaldo and Messi, in no uncertain terms, that their time at the top was up.
