Messi's grandmother
Messi's grandmother Celia Olivera Cuccittini passed away in 1998 but the Paris Saint-Germain forward has very fond memories of her. He has in the past credited her with his success.
"I was one of the youngest ones and therefore there were no categories for me yet, but one of them was missing a player and so my grandmother told the manager ‘to let me play,’ to which the manager replied, ‘How can we let him play? He is too small, he cannot play," said Messi in the past as quoted by Indian Express.
Messi eventually got the deserved game time and as they say, the rest is history. He always remembers his grandmother by pointing to the sky every time he scores a goal. The Argentinian team will be looking to go one better than in 2014.
