Kaizer Chiefs hopes that moving matches away from Soccer City to Polokwane's Peter Mokaba Stadium will go a long way in stopping the club's seven-year trophy drought.
The Amakhosi will host Royal AM, Golden Arrows and Swallows FC in three DStv Premiership in Limpopo. This was part of an agreement between the club and the city.
Chiefs' marketing and commercial director Jessica Motaung said on the club's website:
“We are delighted to be back in the province of Limpopo and the city of Polokwane in particular, where we enjoy great support. We are looking forward to three exciting games with a full stadium because we know that the people of Limpopo will come out in numbers because they love Amakhosi.

“Their support proved key in the past when we lifted the league trophy with the New Peter Mokaba as our home venue. We hope that history will be repeated when we play at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium again. We believe in long-term agreements; and being in Polokwane for three years means we will be working with the municipality to achieve our goals or promoting sport, particularly football in the city.”
According to The Citizen, the Polokwane city manager excitedly added:
“Having Kaizer Chiefs to Polokwane is a strategic move as we know the economic impact it will have on the city. We know the games will boost tourism with many people traveling to Polokwane. We also know that jobs will be created, with small businesses standing to benefit from this.”
Chiefs' last league title was the ABSA Premiership in the 2014/2015 season. Their last taste of cup success was when they defeated arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in the final of the 2014 MTN 8 final that was hosted at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
