Havertz Makes Vow to Chelsea After World Cup Failure With Germany

It was not a dream World Cup for Germany and Kai Havertz, after the 2014 winners were eliminated in the group stages despite a late fight-back in their last game.

Germany were drawn in the same group as Spain, Japan and Costa Rica and after an opening day loss to the Samurai Blue, a draw against La Roja, and an inconsequential win over La Tricolor, they were sent home.

Havertz, who came off the bench to lead a late and unsuccessful fightback for Germany against Costa Rica, is back with Chelsea and has promised to step up for the club on the pitch.

The German's career with the Blues has been a mix of up and down. He has stepped up in three finals to win his club trophies, but on other days he doesn't look like a £72m player, as reported by the Guardian.

Havertz promises all for Chelsea

The 23-year-old will certainly be remembered by Chelsea fans for his winning goals in the UEFA Champions League and the Club World Cup finals, but not much for his performances outside of those.

He is back at the club's base in Cobham and while stepping up his recovery, spoke about his next step for the Londoners in a video uploaded by the club on Twitter:

''You're always going to experience doubt when things aren't going well. I've already had one or two periods where not everything has gone great for me personally and I've doubted myself, but I just try to stay calm, stay positive, get on with life, step onto the pitch each day, play football and have fun,'' he said.

The former Bayer Leverkusen man appears mostly nonchalant, but is deeply concerned about his performances for the club and wants to keep improving.

''I want to keep improving my game, I'm more determined than ever to give my all for Chelsea on the pitch. Nothing will get in the way of achieving my dreams.'' he added.

Havertz very disappointed after elimination

Sports Brief earlier reported that Havertz cut a disappointed figure after Germany was eliminated from the World Cup, despite beating Costa Rica.

The young player came off the bench and scored two goals in the 4-2 win. He was awarded the man of the match, but his look while posing for photos communicated his dissatisfaction.

Germany will need put their dismal Mundial showing behind them and look forward to Euro 2024, in which they will be the host country.
