Barcelona has been rocked with the news that veteran midfielder Sergio Busquets has asked to leave the club in the January transfer window.
Busquets has been one of the long-serving members of the current Barcelona squad, but his contract with the Catalan giants is set to run out next summer.
Spanish journalist Jose Alvarez has now revealed that the 34-year-old midfielder seemingly asked the Catalans to allow him to leave in the upcoming winter window, Barca Universal reports.
The Barcelona captain has allegedly informed the club he plans on joining Major League Soccer side Inter Miami, who have been credited with a long-standing interest in the midfielder.

Busquets wants to move to the USA in time for the 2023 season which is scheduled to begin in late February, with clubs starting pre-season work next month.
Xavi desperate to keep Busquets
Meanwhile, Barcelona boss Xavi is said to be desperate to keep hold of Busquets as the 34-year-old’s contract set nears its end, Sports Mole reports.
Xavi sees Busquets as an integral part of his plans and is keen for the veteran star to sign a contract extension, and to remain at the club beyond the ongoing season.
Busquets has been in La Blaugrana's first team since 2008, making 696 appearances for the club in all competitions, contributing 18 goals and 42 assists.
