Robin Van Persie, the legendary former Manchester United striker, was pictured with Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag in Manchester after a dinner meeting.

Van Persie is working on his coaching badges and he is reportedly expected at Old Trafford this week.

The former Dutch striker retired from football in 2018 at the age of 35 and leaves a solid legacy at the Theatre of Dreams.

He sensationally left Arsenal in 2012 to join the Red Devils, a move which put him in trouble with Gunners fans, but he was rewarded later that season after inspiring Man United to the Premier League title in 2013.

Incidentally, that was Sir Alex Ferguson's last season and United's last league title after their legendary manager retired.

Van Persie was the top scorer that season, netting 26 goals and providing 15 assists in 28 league appearances, per Transfermarkt. In total, he scored 58 goals in 105 appearances for the 20-time English champions.

Van Persie meets Ten Hag

MEN reports that the two Dutchmen, along with their agent, had a three-hour meeting in the English city.

The Dutch legend is the current assistant manager at Feyenoord and is spending time at United's training ground, as he prepares for a possible career in coaching in the future.

However, MEN reports that the Dutch all-time top scorer is not expected to join Ten Hag's coaching staff, per ESPN.

The former Ajax manager is assisted by Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren. Performance analyst Kevin Keij joined ten Hag from Ajax.

Van Persie scored 144 Premier League goals in 280 appearances, making him the highest-scoring Dutch player in English top-flight history.

Ten Hag on United's defeat

Sports Brief earlier reported onTen Hag reacting to United's defeat in their warm-up match against Real Betis.

The Red Devils boss named a relatively weaker side to face the Spanish giants, with the Dutchman parading a mixture of academy stars and first-team players.

Reacting to his side's second straight loss, ten Hag insisted his charges were in better shape than they were during their defeat to Cadiz.
