LVG laughs off Messi question

Meanwhile, the Netherlands manager van Gaal laughed off a question about how he planned to stop Messi in the World Cup quarter-final against Argentina, Goal reports.

Van Gaal makes no secret of the fact that his defensive unit is equipped with a special strategy, supposedly ready to halt the 35-year-old opposition captain.

However, the former Manchester United and Bayern Munich manager chose not to share the entirety of it, because he believes it would be 'quite foolish' to do so.

Messi to equal Batistuta’s record

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Argentina captain Messi is hoping to match his country's World Cup goal scoring fear, when they cross swords with the Netherlands on Friday.

The 35-year-old will lead his teammates in a cracking clash against the European powerhouse at the Lusail Iconic Stadium, with the winner advancing to the semis.

The Argentine phenomenon is also on course to level Argentine legend Gabriel Batistuta's record at the tournament in Qatar.
