Rodrygo de Goes has sent a subtle warning shot to his Real Madrid teammate Luka Modric, ahead of Brazil's crunch tie against Croatia in the 2022 World Cup.

"When he found out my father was 35 years old, he didn't believe it. He then told me I should respect him, as he was old enough to be my father. Since then, he always calls me son and I call him dad," he said as quoted by Sport Bible.

The 21-year-old has now sent his 'dad' a tweet, indicating that he is looking forward to facing him on Friday. Modric will lead out his side, looking to replicate the successes of 2018 that saw them go all the way, bar one step.

Modric is a certain starter and leader of the team, while Rodrygo will have to contend with a place on the bench, especially now that Neymar is back to full fitness.

The winner of that clash will face the winner of Argentina vs the Netherlands in the last 4.

Modric on Japan's dramatic victory

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Croatia captain Modric said his team 'can't do it without the drama', after they reached the World Cup quarter-finals following a penalty shootout win against Japan on Monday.

Mario Pasalic struck the winning kick after Dominik Livakovic saved three penalties. Earlier, Ivan Perisic had pulled Croatia level in the 55th minute of normal time following Daizen Maeda's opener for Japan just before the break.

The match in Qatar continues a pattern for Croatia. Seven of their past eight knockout games at major tournaments have gone to extra time, the only exception being their final defeat by France in Russia four years ago.
