  • Portugal boss Fernando Santos has expressed his disappointment with Cristiano Ronaldo
  • Ronaldo engaged in a heated altercation with a South Korean player after he was subbed
  • Multiple reports indicate Ronaldo was angry with his team manager for substituting him

Portugal boss Fernando Santos has broken his silence about Cristiano Ronaldo's reaction to being substituted against South Korea.

Ronaldo's reactions after being subbed off annoyed his boss, and he stated the matter was closed and 'it had been dealt with'.

The Portugal icon has scored just one goal in Qatar and will have a chance to add to his tally when they play Switzerland in the last 16.

Ronaldo looked visibly exasperated when he was replaced in the 65th minute of the 2-1 defeat to South Korea on Friday, December 2. According to multiple reports, Ronaldo quipped that Santos was 'in a rush' to sub him.

The 37-year-old was then involved in a shouting match with South Korea player Cho Gue-Sung as he exited. Santos realised Ronaldo's reaction after the match, according to ESPN.

A few weeks ago, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner stole the headlines when he appeared in an interview with controversial journalist Piers Morgan.

Ronaldo launched a scathing attack on Manchester United, manager Erik ten Hag, and Red Devils legend Wayne Rooney. The club then responded by agreeing to terminate his contract early.

Santos angry with Ronaldo

According to the Guardian, Santos said he was deeply unimpressed with Ronaldo's behaviour during the game.

“Have I seen the images? Yes, I didn’t like it, not at all. I didn’t like it. I really didn’t like it. But from that moment onwards, everything is finished regarding that issue."

The 68-year-old refused to admit who will captain his side against the Swiss in the Round of 16.

“I only decide who is going to be captain when I reach the stadium.”

Ronaldo became the first player to score in five World Cups when he scored a penalty against Ghana in their opener. He is still a free agent, but multiple reports indicate that Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr are interested in signing him.

Messi beats Ronaldo to record

Sports Brief earlier reported on Lionel Messi beating Ronaldo to a new record after his 1000th career appearance.

Messi's goal against Australia marked his first-ever strike in the knockout phase of the Mundial, taking his World Cup tally to nine goals - one more than Diego Maradona and Ronaldo.

As if that was not enough, the 35-year-old further embellished his status as the better of the hotly debated duo when he was revealed as Man of the Match against the Socceroos.
