Kylian Mbappe and Olivier Giroud's lethal combination proved pivotal in guiding France past Poland on Sunday, December 4.

Mbappe's searing pace and ruthlessness in front of the goal, interlaced with Giroud's precision in the box, ensured the World Cup holders progressed to the quarter-finals at the expense of Robert Lewandowski's nation.

Despite their brilliance on the field, it is their goal celebration that has attracted the attention of social media users.

Mbappe-Giroud sends France to quarters

Mbappe set up a history-making goal for Giroud and then scored two himself, as current world champions France eased into the quarter-finals of the World Cup with a 3-1 win over Poland on Sunday.

Giroud's opening goal a minute before half-time was his 52nd for his country, allowing him to pass Thierry Henry and become France's all-time record marksman.

Mbappe's lethal strike in the 74th minute killed off any prospect of a Poland comeback and he netted again at the death to move to nine goals in just 11 World Cup appearances, the second-most for a French player at the tournament.

Ferdinand: Mbappe ahead of Messi

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Rio Ferdinand rating Mbappe ahead of Lionel Messi, stating the former's performance against Poland was full of confidence and comparable to the Argentine genius's role at the centre against Australia.

Mbappe netted twice for France as Didier Deschamps' team progressed to the quarter-final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

According to the Daily Mail, Ferdinand believes the 23-year-old forward is devastating in all areas and has had the most explosive performance so far at the World Cup.
