Brighton and Hove Albion forward, Danny Welbeck has opened up on what it was like making his England debut against the Black Stars of Ghana.
Welbeck, born to Ghanaian parents in England, earned his first cap for the Three Lions in a friendly against the Black Stars on March 29, 2011.
A late Asamoah Gyan curler cancelled Andy Carroll's strike for England as the two nations shared the spoils.
In a chat with popular British-Ghanaian host, Andrew Mensah, Welbeck disclosed that he was booed by his cousins as he came on for Ashley Young.
"My mom and dad are from Ghana. It was mad, it was like a bittersweet moment. Obviously I walk out at Wembley, coming on on the sidelines, I've a lot of family friends in the stand and coming on I heard a lot of boos. Speaking to my cousins after the game, they were like, yes, we were booing you," he said on footballontnt.
Welbeck decided to represent England because he had played for the youth teams of the European country.
The Brighton and Hove Albion forward has played 42 times for England, scoring 16 goals, as reported by Transfermarkt.
The former Manchester United player has been involved in several philanthropic initiatives in his native Ghana.
