  • USA bowed out of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup after a 3-1 loss to the Netherlands
  • Football prevailed over soccer eventually as the Americans were sent back home from Qatar
  • USMNT midfielder Weston McKennie has now warned that the team will be giants soon

The USA Men's National Team became the first team to be eliminated from the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup knockout stages after a 3-1 loss to the Netherlands.

The Americans would have themselves to blame after missed chances, poor defensive showing and generally uninspired performances combined to crash them out of the tournament.

Statement by Weston McKennie

Weston McKennie, like his teammates, spoke to the media after the match. The Juventus midfielder was quoted by GWFN sending a warning to the world.

“This tournament has really restored a lot of belief, restored a lot of respect to US Soccer and soccer in our country. I think we’ve shown that we can be giants eventually. We may not be there yet, but I think we’re definitely on our way.” he said.

The USMNT are reigning CONCACAF Nations League champions and certainly have a bright future ahead of them as a young group.

Football goes political but fun

Sports Brief earlier reported that Netherlands president jibbed US president Joe Biden in a friendly affair on Twitter.

The US president had earlier tweeted in support of his countrymen before the game but his Dutch counterpart waited till the end of the match to say "Sorry Joe, football won."

Netherlands will face Lionel Messi's Argentina in the quarter-final after La Albiceleste finished off spirited Australia in the other matchup.
